SharePoint

Microsoft® SharePoint allows teams to create web sites for information sharing and document collaboration. It serves as a platform for portal development, team workspaces, e-mail, presence awareness, and web-based conferencing. Microsoft® SharePoint enables users to locate distributed information quickly and efficiently, as well as connect to and work with others more productively.

How SharePoint Works

Microsoft® SharePoint sites take file storage to a new level, providing communities their own virtual workspace for team collaboration. In addition, team and site managers can easily coordinate site content and user activity.  The Microsoft® SharePoint environment is designed for easy and flexible deployment, administration, and portal development.  Microsoft® SharePoint sites are made up of web-based components, called Web Parts, that are easily added to pages to create a complete web-based portal.  To get you started, Microsoft® SharePoint has over forty pre-configured templates available.

Hosted and Browser Based

Microsoft® SharePoint securely stores your critical business information in a central data center where you can access it anywhere using any web browser.  The application is always up to date, with no need to manage patches and updates.

Microsoft® SharePoint is available for any team you choose, either inside or outside your company, to store and share all types of documents and information.

Team Community

Microsoft® SharePoint enabled sites provide places to capture and share ideas, information, communication, and documents. The sites facilitate team participation for discussions, shared document collaboration, surveys, and research. The document collaboration features allow for easy check in and check out document version control.

Individual Empowerment

Microsoft® SharePoint site members can communicate both by e-mail and with instant messaging, and site content can be easily searched. Users can receive alerts that tell them when existing documents and information have been changed or added.  Site content and layout can be personalized on a per-user basis, and Web Parts can be used to present targeted information to specific users on precise topics.

Microsoft® Office applications work seamlessly with Microsoft® SharePoint site content.  All of a site's collaborative content—for example, documents, lists and events, task assignments, and membership rosters—can be read and edited within Microsoft® Office Word 2007, Microsoft® Office Excel 2007, and Microsoft® Office PowerPoint 2007.  Also, Microsoft® Office Outlook 2007 allows SharePoint site event calendars to be viewed side-by-side with personal calendars, and also creates meeting-specific workspaces to augment group appointments.
